In 2014, the first 3 parts of Brian Howell’s intriguing novel about the Dutch painter Jan Torrentius (1589 - 1644) were published as “The Stream and the Torrent”. In 2016 the Dutch filmmaker Maarten de Kroon finished his acclaimed documentary about this controversial painter and his only surviving mysterious masterpiece.

We finally offer the long-awaited 3 new parts of Brian’s book: “The Curious Case of Jan Torrentius”.

“In 1629, this painter, fêted in the highest social and artistic circles of Hague society for his unusual ability to depict real objects with uncommon accuracy, along with being suspected of belonging to, if not being the head of, a secret society known as the Rosy Cross, is languishing in prison, having been found guilty of atheism, blasphemy, and heresy.”
